Terms
How a booking works, what is and is not included, and what we can and cannot promise. The figures for your own journey are always set out in your written quotation.
Who you are contracting with
Siri Siri Lanka Traveller. Your written quotation names the contracting entity and its registration details in full.
What we do
We design an itinerary for you and arrange the parts it needs — accommodation, a vehicle and driver-guide, permits, park entries, trains and specialist guides. The hotels, lodges and operators who deliver those elements are independent businesses with their own terms, and their conditions apply alongside ours.
Quotations
Prices shown anywhere on this site are indicative and marked from. They describe a journey of that shape at a quieter time of year. They are a starting point, not an offer. A real price depends on your dates, your group and what is actually available when we ask, which is why we quote after a conversation rather than before one.
A quotation holds for the period stated on it. Nothing is secured until we confirm the booking. Rates over Christmas, New Year and the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April are materially higher and are often released later than the rest of the year.
What is included, and what is not
Every quotation lists inclusions and exclusions in full. Unless yours explicitly says otherwise, international flights are not included. Neither are visas, travel insurance, tips, personal expenses, or meals not named in the itinerary. Domestic flights and seaplane transfers are included only where the itinerary lists them.
Confirming a booking
A deposit confirms your booking and lets us hold the arrangements. The amount is stated on your quotation before you are asked for anything. You get a written itinerary and a full price breakdown before any payment is taken. Some elements — a particular villa, a peak-season lodge, an internal flight — need a larger deposit or payment in full at the point of booking. Where that applies we tell you before you commit, not after.
Paying the balance
The balance is due in advance of travel, by the date on your confirmation. For bookings made close to departure the full amount is payable at the time of booking. Bank charges on international transfers are yours; we absorb our own end.
If you change or cancel
Cancellation charges depend on how close to departure you cancel and on what the individual suppliers in your itinerary allow. The scale that applies to your booking is set out on your confirmation, in writing, before you pay anything.
Small amendments before departure are usually straightforward and we do not look for reasons to charge for them. Where a supplier imposes a fee to change or re-book, we pass on what it actually costs us.
If we have to change something
Occasionally we do. A lodge closes, a road is cut, a park shuts at short notice, a train is cancelled. Where that happens we substitute something of equivalent or better standard and tell you why. If a change is significant and you would rather not travel on the revised arrangements, we discuss it with you rather than present it as settled.
Travel insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of travelling with us. It should cover medical treatment and repatriation as a minimum, and cancellation as well. If your itinerary includes anything an insurer treats as a hazardous activity — diving, surfing, trekking, whitewater — check it is covered before you travel rather than after.
Passports, visas and health
Making sure your passport, visa and vaccinations are in order is your responsibility. Sri Lanka’s entry requirements change, so check the official Sri Lankan immigration portal and your own government’s travel advice close to departure. We will tell you what we know, but we cannot obtain a visa for you and we are not liable for a refused entry.
What we cannot promise
Wildlife is wild. We can put you in the right park, in the right month, at the right hour, with a guide who knows what they are doing — and that is the whole of what anyone can honestly offer. Nobody can guarantee a leopard, a blue whale, a nesting turtle or the gathering at Minneriya. Weather is the same. If an operator promises you a sighting, they are telling you something they cannot know.
Behaviour
Your driver-guide is responsible for the safety of everyone in the vehicle, and their judgement on road conditions and distance from animals is final. We reserve the right to end arrangements, without refund, for anyone whose behaviour puts other travellers, our staff, local people or wildlife at risk.
If something goes wrong
Tell us while you are still in the country. Almost every problem on a journey is fixable on the day and almost none of them are fixable a fortnight later. Your driver-guide has a direct line to the person who designed your trip. If it is still unresolved when you get home, write to reservations@sirisirilanka.com and we will answer.
Liability
We are responsible for designing your journey with reasonable skill and care and for the arrangements we make on your behalf. We are not liable for events outside our reasonable control — extreme weather, civil disruption, strike action, epidemic, airline failure, or the acts of third parties — nor for losses arising from your own actions or from services you book directly.
