About us
We live on the island we sell.
Most companies selling Sri Lanka are not in Sri Lanka. The difference turns up in the details that are difficult to fix from somewhere else — which gate to be at, which road is closed, which month the whales move coast.
Who we are
A small company that designs one trip at a time.
Siri Siri Lanka Traveller is a private travel company based in Sri Lanka. We design and operate our own journeys rather than reselling someone else's programme, which means the itinerary you receive was built by a person who has driven the road, stayed in the room and met the guide.
We are deliberately small. There is a ceiling on how many journeys can be designed properly in a season, and we would rather sit under it than above it. In practice that means the person who answers your first message is the person who plans the trip, and the same person is at the end of the phone while you are travelling.
We are not an agency, a marketplace or a booking engine. There is no inventory to shift and no minimum party size.

How we travel
Fewer places, longer in each.
Sri Lanka is roughly the size of Ireland and you can cross it in a day. That single fact is responsible for more disappointing itineraries than anything else, because being able to reach five regions in nine nights is not the same as it being worth doing.
The journeys people write to us about afterwards are always the ones with fewer places in them. A morning that was not scheduled. A second night somewhere they had planned to drive through. We build that space in deliberately, and it is usually the part we have to defend hardest at the planning stage.
- 01
One direction of travel
North into the dry zone, up into the hills, down to the coast. No day should be spent retracing a road you drove two days earlier.
- 02
Real driving times
A hundred kilometres here can take three hours. We plan around what the road actually does rather than what the map suggests.
- 03
Arrive before the crowd
Sigiriya at gate opening, Yala before the convoy forms, the Nine Arch Bridge before eight. The same places are entirely different two hours later.
- 04
Room to do nothing
At least one unscheduled day in any itinerary over a week. It is the day people remember and the first one they would have cut themselves.
Why we do it
The island is badly served by the way it is usually sold.
Sri Lanka is sold, for the most part, as a checklist. Eight sites in ten days, a photograph at each, and a driver waiting with the engine running. It works as a product and it is a poor way to experience a country where the interesting things happen at the edges of the schedule.
It is also a market with a real trust problem. Deposits taken by operators who cannot be reached afterwards, itineraries that arrive as a one-line email, hotels substituted on arrival. Anyone researching a Sri Lankan trip runs into this within an afternoon of searching, and it makes people reasonably cautious about paying a company they have never heard of several thousand dollars.
We built this the way we would want to be dealt with: everything in writing before anything is paid, one named person throughout, and an honest answer when the thing you want is not available in the month you have chosen.
What makes us different
Four things, none of them slogans
Designed here, not resold
The itinerary is built in Sri Lanka by the people who will run it. Nothing is passed to a local operator you never meet after you have paid an agency abroad.
We have been in the rooms
Every property we put on an itinerary has been visited. Hotel photography is a professional discipline and it is not a reliable guide to what a room is actually like.
Guides chosen for the trip
A driver-guide who is excellent on the Cultural Triangle is not automatically the right person for a wildlife itinerary. We match rather than allocate.
Advice against our own interest
We will tell you when a shorter trip is better, when a park is not worth the drive, and when the month you have picked is the wrong one. It costs us bookings and it is the entire basis of the relationship.
The people
One person owns your journey from first message to last.
There is no enquiry desk that hands you on once you have booked. Whoever replies to your first message designs the itinerary, negotiates the rooms, briefs the guide and is the number you call from the road. It is a slower way to run a travel company and it is the only way we have found that produces trips people write to us about a year later.

Sathji Umanga
Tour Consultant
Our tour itineraries are thoughtfully designed with insights and recommendations from Mr. Umanga, who brings valuable knowledge and perspective from the field of psychology. Alongside detailed destination research and practical operational planning, his insights have helped us consider guest comfort, travel pace, relaxation, experiences, and overall well-being when designing our tours. Every itinerary is carefully researched and planned to create a balanced, comfortable, and meaningful Sri Lankan travel experience.
On the ground
The same person driving and guiding, for the whole trip.
Every journey we run uses a driver-guide rather than a transfer and a separate local guide at each stop — one person who knows the roads and the timing well enough to explain them, with you for the whole trip rather than a single day of it.

Charith Lakshitha Jayakody
Driver-guide
Charith has been driving and guiding across Sri Lanka for three years, most often for families, couples and small groups who want one person handling both the road and the commentary. He works comfortably across the full range — cultural sites, wildlife safaris, hill-country hikes and the coast — and has hosted travellers from a wide range of countries.
Local knowledge
The things you cannot plan from a spreadsheet.
Most of what makes a Sri Lankan itinerary work is timing and local condition, and neither is stable. Parks close in drought years. The blue whales follow the monsoon from one coast to the other. Festival dates move with the lunar calendar and a hotel that was excellent last season may have changed hands. This is the part of the job that cannot be done from a catalogue, and it is why we do not publish fixed departures.

Two monsoons, opposite coasts
There is no bad season in Sri Lanka, only a wrong coast for the month. December to April suits the south and west; May to September suits the east. Getting this one decision right matters more than every other choice in the itinerary.
The gate time problem
Yala at half past five and Yala at nine in the morning are different experiences with the same ticket. Almost every complaint we hear about Sri Lankan safaris traces back to this.
Ayurveda versus the spa menu
A genuine programme has a resident physician who consults before prescribing. A treatment list bookable online in advance is a spa wearing the vocabulary. Both are enjoyable; only one does what the literature claims.
Operator ethics on the water
A significant number of whale-watching boats crowd and chase the animals. Which boat you are on matters more than which month you come.
How we work
Five things we commit to
Not claims about the past — policies we control, and which you can hold us to from your first message.
- 01
Every journey is private
Your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, your own pace. We do not run group departures and we never put separate parties together.
- 02
Nothing is charged before you see it in writing
A full itinerary and an invoice reach you before any payment is taken. If a Sri Lankan operator will not do that, do not pay them.
- 03
You deal with the person who designed it
The reply to your enquiry comes from whoever will build the journey, and they stay with it through to your return. There is no handover to an account team.
- 04
A direct number for the whole trip
Answered in Sri Lanka, in the same time zone you are travelling in. Most problems here are small and logistical, and they are far easier to solve from Colombo.
- 05
We will talk you out of the wrong month
The island runs two monsoons on opposite coasts. If the dates you have chosen do not suit what you want to see, we will say so before you book rather than after.
Safety and reliability
What happens when something goes wrong.
Most problems on a Sri Lankan trip are small and logistical — a road closed by weather, a delayed train, a hotel that has overbooked. They are solved by someone in the country with the relationships to fix them, which is the practical argument for using a company based here rather than one that is nine hours behind you.
One number, the whole trip
Answered in Sri Lanka, in your time zone, by the people who planned the journey. Not a rota and not an emergency line.
Vehicles and drivers we use repeatedly
We work with the same drivers season after season rather than sourcing whoever is available. Nobody is on an itinerary we have not travelled with.
Nothing paid before it is written down
A full itinerary and a proper invoice, every time, before any money moves.
Travel insurance required
We ask every traveller to hold their own policy. It is a condition of travelling with us rather than an upsell — we do not sell insurance.

Tell us what you have in mind.
The reply comes from whoever will design the journey, and they stay with it through to your return.
